RTK Live in Torrance

Performing songs from Echo Like Empty Rooms at Faith UMC’s annual Coffee House event. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen!

RTK at Suzy’s in Hermosa – Friday, Nov 1 @ 9:00p

Hey everyone!
Our next performance will this Friday, November 1st when Pete Sheppard and I return to Suzy’s Bar and Grill in Hermosa Beach. It’ll be a 30 minute acoustic set of originals from our various CD releases plus some surprises!

There are 3 other acts on the bill including the hard-rocking song stylings of The Ride featuring our pals Bruce Braddock and Ben Davis. And did I mention that Ragin’ Cajun has taken over the kitchen?  Oh yeah!! See you Friday night…

Thanks to Mary and everyone at the Namaste Café! I had a great time performing last night. There was a very receptive, supportive audience and the bonus of a guitar-playing sound man named Paul!

Since it was my first time in this room and a coffeehouse environment, I changed the set list a bit. I opened with King of Fools and segued into Moon Comes Around. For some reason, I’ve never thought to pair them together live even though they both reference a specific evening in Austin…

The rest of the set was from Confidential Reasons (This Cruel Rain, The Inside, Lonely Girl, and Someday) and then we closed with And I Did Not Know from the R & D Project recording.

It didn’t seem like a solo performance, though –Paul the sound guy added some tasteful Stratified textures from behind the sound board, and even took a few solos albeit hidden from the view of the audience.  It created an intimate connection with the audience, including the Namaste regulars.

It was also fun sharing the evening with the other performers, including Mike V and his pal Steve.

We’ll do it again in early 2014!

July Shows

I’m excited to be part of the upcoming Seasons of Love show next Saturday! We are celebrating Steve Bullard’s 20 years with Faith UMC & 20 years with the International Children’s Choir with a concert on Saturday, July 13 @ 4 PM at Centinela Center for the Arts in Lawndale.  The concert includes many individuals and groups he has been associated with, and I’ve been asked to perform my song “He’ll Be There” along with the Faith Chancel Choir. Tickets are $10. Call 310 817-0731 for ticket information.

Jackknifed Big Rig will be appearing at the Dragonfly in Hollywood on Sunday, July 28th. Tickets will be available in advance or at the door.

Music Cafe Night Update

I’m really excited to be performing at Venice Santa Monica Free Methodist Church’s Music Café Night this Saturday, May 18th. It’s going to be a great night of music, coffee, food, desserts, worship and praise. Also appearing will be David Gaulton and Seven Years.

I’ll be joined by Gina Fletcher (drums) and EJ Wells (bass) for a full 45 minute set.  And we are debuting a batch of new songs! Don’t miss it – we go on at 7:15pm…

Hope to see you there!

Spring shows

2 new RTK dates on the horizon!
On Sunday, April 28, 2013, Jackknifed Big Rig will be playing at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Music Festival in Hermosa Beach, CA.

Then I’ll be performing a short acoustic set at 7pm to open Venice Santa Monica Free Methodist Church’s Music Café Night on Saturday, May 18, 2013.

Plus, we will start working on the new recording project in early May!

Jackknifed Big Rig on Sunset!

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, and now it’s time – let’s start a new band!

Introducing Jackknifed Big Rig.

We will debut this new original ensemble Saturday, August 11th with a mini-set at the Foundation Room at the House of Blues on Sunset.

Joining me on this new adventure will be long-time musical compadre Pete Sheppard on guitar, EJ Wells on bass, and Gina Fletcher on drums.  EJ and Gina have been the rhythm section with the Matsuri Praise Team the last few years. Pete and I have worked together off and on since the Orchids and have been threatening to put a rock n roll band together for the last few years.

So, the time is now! Don’t know what’s next, but hey, that’s why it’s an adventure!

Hopefully it won’t create a Sig alert.  If you’re a member, hope to see you there!
